 GRANTS FUNDED IN FY09

Pediatric Palliative Care
Emergency Family Fund
The Palliative Care Team works in collaboration with health care practitioners to provide care to children with life-threatening and life-limiting illnesses, including children still undergoing curative treatments as well as those for whom curative efforts are unsuccessful.  An Emergency Family Fund to help pay for funeral and other related expenses for family members when they don’t have financial resources was funded through Children’s Trust.

Child Life Program
Medical Education Program
Child Life specialists help to prepare patients for specific procedures through the use of child friendly replicas and objects.  This equipment lessens children’s anxiety about their upcoming procedures by educating them and answering their questions. Children’s Trust helped provide funds for current needs.

Pediatric Palliative Care
Comfort Cart
This is literally a cart they use when a child is going to pass away. Oftentimes, relatives and others come by to visit thepic_2 family.  The comfort cart is left in the room with snacks, drinks, etc. to keep the family comfortable during this difficult time. Children’s Trust members wanted to help in this way.

Trauma
Safety Store
This in-hospital store makes child safety devices available at low costs to all families visiting the hospital because of a child’s injury.  Visitors learn about injury prevention and have an inexpensive way of purchasing quality items. Children’s Trust is committed to keeping children safe and helped provide funds to support this effort.

Clinical Nutrition and Clinical & Metabolic Genetics
Precision Gram Scale Program
High-precision and portable scales which are accurate to 1/10th of a gram are compact and durable too.  These scalespic_3 are distributed to the families of pediatric patients with inborn errors of metabolism and seizure disorders who must follow strictly calculated diets prescribed by their metabolic geneticist or pediatric neurologist. Children’s Trust helped provide this for families who otherwise did not have access.
