What is an endowment?
An endowment is a permanent fund. The principal is invested and never spent. When fully funded, distributions are made from the earnings for the purpose for which the endowment was established. What is referred to as “Dell Children’s Medical Center Endowment Fund” is actually made up of dozens of smaller funds established by individual donors, families or organizations who believe in long-term financial planning to insure future stability.
Why is an endowment important for Dell Children’s Medical Center?
Endowment funds are critical to ensure that Dell Children’s will continue to provide the highest level of care for generations to come. Endowment funds are used primarily to:
- - Strengthen, expand and maintain health care services and programs;
- - Upgrade, modernize and acquire necessary medical equipment;
- - Maintain and modernize the facilities when needed; and
- - Attract and retain top talent.
Endowment is the ultimate source of long-term security for any organization.
How do I establish an endowment?
Named endowments can be established with a minimum donation of $10,000 and can be paid annually, semiannually, quarterly, or monthly over a five year period. Once an endowment fund is established, additional principal can be added at any time from multiple sources so the annual proceeds of the fund continue to grow.
How are endowment gifts recognized?
Named endowments are recognized in perpetuity on the beautiful “Butterfly Wall” at Dell Children’s Medical Center. A donor may also choose to remain anonymous.
Can I designate the purpose of my endowment gift?
Yes. Named endowments can be directed to specific programs of the hospital, such as cancer, trauma, neuroscience, reconstructive surgery or the child life department, which provides and promotes family-centered care as well as art and music therapy.
